“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he…..”
-The above quote is taken from the book of Proverbs
So I was at work the other day, and I remember having a short conversation with the guy at the cash register. I see this gentleman almost everyday since this particular 7 – 11 convenience store is on my delivery route. I asked him how long he had been working there and if he liked his job. He replied, “ehh” and then told me he had been working there about 4 years. I asked him, “why don’t you try working at the Post office?” He replied, “No, you have to be smart to work at the Post Office”. His response was shocking to me. He was telling me that he didn’t think he was smart enough for the job. Almost that he was only good enough for his job at the 7-11, as though that was his lot in life. Was he right? Well if that is his choice, then yes, but he does have other choices, as do we all.
One of my favorite scriptures comes from the book of Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7, as a man thinketh in his heart so is he. Our minds and how we view ourselves plays such a pivotal role in the outcome of how our lives turn out. It’s mind boggling to think just what people may think of themselves. Think too highly and it’s cockiness, but think too lowly and perhaps you come across as a pushover, attempting to be humble you may greatly lessen your own self value and worth, mentally speaking. The fact remains is simple: you are what you think! If you think you’re not good enough chances are you wont be. That’s not to say that certain uncontrollable situations don’t occur throughout life, We all know this to be true.
I personally try to always remain optimistic in every possible way. It’s very important to have high self esteem and a rich and healthy opinion of yourself. No matter how highly the world may think of you, if you have negative inner thoughts about yourself and you feel inferior, the Devil wins that battle, but we also have the ability to combat negative thoughts with good, and at the end of the day how you respond to a given situation is the most important choice of all.
